AN EXQUISITELY crafted bookmark was among the most admired entries at the 123rd Brighstone and District Horticultural Society Summer Show.

The bookmark, made by by Angela Russell, won the Committee Cup for best in show and was described by the judges as 'of the finest quality.'

Held at Warnes Lane Playing Field on Saturday, the show was hailed a huge success and featured live music, arena events, a tea tent, stalls, raffle, animals and vintage tractors.

It attracted 375 entries from 57 adults, and 78 entries from 19 children. Youngsters from Brighstone Primary School and local scout and guide groups all took part.

Society committee member, Sylvia Hinchen, said: "We were amazed at the number of entries, a third more than last year, with many new people entering the classes.

"In the big horticultural marquee, there was a spectacular display of a miniature cottage and a beam pump engine from Bill Godfrey and a beautiful display of sweet peas from Darren Everest.

"There were also wonderful displays by the primary school and a fabulous show of produce from the Brighstone Community Garden.

"The judges were impressed by the quality and range of entries, so a big thank you to all who took part, for the donors of raffle prizes and everyone who worked so hard to put our show together."
