A MEMORIAL bench has been unveiled in Ningwood, in memory of former Shalfleet parish councillor Roslyn M. Runnette.

Mrs Runnette, a teacher, was also a member of the Ningwood and District Residents’ Association. She died of cancer in 2010.

Her husband Alan Runnette attended the official presentation, along with friends, relatives and past and present members of the parish council.

When the residents' association disbanded, all funds were agreed to be spent on a local charitable purpose — and the decision was made to construct the bench.

The seat was constructed by traditional boatbuilder and joiner, Simon Miskin.

Steve French, incumbent treasurer of the association, arranged the whole concept in conjunction with the parish council, with help from clerk Sally Woods.
