A LUXURY Isle of Wight jewellers, that has been a fixture in Cowes for 168 years and is valued at over £2.5 million, has gone up for sale.

The prestigious jewel makers, Benzie of Cowes, has put its High Street store on the market for £2,560,000.

A spokesman for the jewellers said: "For more than 150 years, Benzie of Cowes has lived and breathed the unique sailing heritage of Cowes.

"Now, in fair winds and a unique approach to circumnavigation, this prestigious business is coming to market.

"Benzie of Cowes is looking for a new skipper, to drive the business forward."

The shopfront has been a mainstay in the town for generations and has had a hand in many of its traditions such as crafting the gold chain worn by the mayor of Cowes.

The site boasts a spacious four bedroom home above and an exclusive observation gallery with 'fabulous Solent views' and an 'undisturbed view of the regatta race markers'.

Items made by Benzie range from high-class silverware such as that used by the Royal Yacht Squadron, to ornate models of ships such as the famous yacht Endeavour, commissioned by Thomas Sopwith in 1934.

With its high price point, the property is expected to draw attention from around the globe as Benzie is a known brand in the world of yachting.

"With patronage from royalty and some of the world’s most iconic sailors, the business offers an anchor in the town of Cowes, known to be the yachting capital of the world.

"The new voyage of Benzie of Cowes has begun, with a mission to find a new skipper to navigate her business fortunes further."
