MOBILE phone services across the Island have gone down today (Wednesday) as major network providers carry out maintenance.

Network providers including O2 and Vodafone have seen their coverage on the Isle of Wight come to a stop as 'essential maintenance work' is carried out.

In a statement on their website, O2 said of the outage: "We’re carrying out some upgrade work to help improve our network.

"While we do this, you might have some trouble with your calls, texts and data.

"We’re working as fast as we can.

"Everything should be back to normal by 6pm on Thursday July 18."

Services such as Giff Gaff and Tesco mobile that rely on O2's network are similarly down, but BT Mobile, EE and other networks remain unaffected.
