CREATIVE children from Nine Acres Primary School have had their artwork displayed in a Newport gallery.

The Be creARTive art exhibition is being shown at the Independent Arts gallery PPUG, at 33 High Street, until July 20.

It shows artwork produced by the children over the course of one year, exploring themes from early cave paintings, tribal art, propaganda posters,

modern art, self portraits, even the school’s chickens.

Bryony Mackrill, art teacher, said: "Art projects are the perfect way to explore many aspects of our life, history and culture.

"Topics have included Second World War propaganda posters, the genius of Picasso and Anna Bateman as well as appreciating nature’s extraordinary creations such as giraffes.

“I really encourage the children to look intensely at the subject matter. The pupils have produced truly remarkable artwork which is worthy of recognition and celebration.”

Headteacher Beth Dyer said: “Art is a way for our children to express themselves. It’s a real privilege to have their work on display in the local community. "Our children deserve to shine and Independent Arts has given us this amazing opportunity.”

PPUG provides a vibrant new arts space in a former empty shop. It is open Thursday to Saturday, from 10.30am to 3.30pm although times may vary.
