CURTAIN UP Amateur Dramatic Society in Totland is looking for new members to help with its two productions each year.

The society, formed in 1977, is holding three evenings of one act comedy plays starting on Thursday and continuing next Friday and Saturday (July 19/20) at 7.30pm.

The plays have been written and directed by new member Cheryl May, who said: "It is always difficult to find good roles for older actors, so years ago I started writing one act plays with interesting character parts for older people.

"With a total cast of 16 needed for the three plays, some of the members had to take roles in more than one play and have risen to the challenge brilliantly."

Cheryl has over 90 published play and pantomime scripts under her pen name Cheryl Barrett and added: "I've always enjoyed acting, writing and directing but, as we get older, it is harder to remember large amounts of dialogue.

"Roles for actors in their 70s and 80s are few and far between, the beauty of one act plays is that there are fewer lines to learn.

"There is a wealth of experience at Curtain Up. For most of us am-dram is more than just a hobby, it has been a way of life for many years, one we would hate to lose."

The three plays, Wild At Art, Word Up and Just Breathe In, Dear are all published with Lazy Bee Scripts.

Tickets can be purchased from Orchard Brothers, Freshwater Bay; The Cabin, Freshwater and FYT Bus shop in Totland.
