THREE Isle of Wight pubs have made it into a prestigious list of the country’s best pubs, inns and taverns.

The Island pubs included on the AA Pub Guide 2020 are The Taverners in Godshill, the Seaview Hotel, and The Crown Inn in Shorwell.

The list names the best pubs across the UK for beer and food, as selected by the AA’s expert inspectors.

Tim Foster, one of the owners of The Taverners, said: "It’s a huge achievement. It shows that what we do is a major passion. We believe that we want to buy hyper local because we feel like it is the right thing to do.

"We look at the IW as its larder. We want to fly the flag. It is the local farmers and producers that have done the work and we want to carry that through."

Tracy Mikich of the Seaview Hotel said: "We are absolutely thrilled to be recognised for our pub offering.

"There is a team that are really passionate about our food and drink offering. They work tirelessly to keep our products at peak condition."

Paul Massey, manager of The Crown Inn, said: "We have been here a year and a half now.

"My partner and I live and breathe this. We really wanted to turn this little pub around and we are proud to have done so."

The Crown has also been nominated for a Good Food Award — and it needs votes to win. You can cast your vote here.
