FIREFIGHTERS have been called to Newport today (Wednesday) to deal with a log fire.

At 11am, a single fire engine from Newport Fire Station was launched to Horsebridge Hill, Newport, to a pile of logs approximately five metres squared smouldering.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "Firefighters are still on the scene, and are using a main jet plugged into a fire hydrant."
