THE Shorwell Midsummer Fair was held over the weekend, in the picturesque grounds of Northcourt Manor.

Entertainment at the traditional event, which raised an impressive £12,000, included stalls, games and entertainment for all the family.

Secretary Ben Lambert said: "It was a huge success, so much so, that we sold out of cake, burgers and real ale.

"We have to take out expenses but, looking at the figures, we're hoping to have raised a record amount.

"The weather was fantastic, so that helped to bring out the crowds.

"This was our 59th year, so next year will be our diamond anniversary.

"We will sit down as a committee and discuss what we are going to do, but I'm sure we will have something special to look forward to."

The fun included crockery-smashing, a coconut-shy, tombola, swing boats, skittles and bouncy castle.

The Eastern Promise Belly Dancers were also there and held a workshop which gave visitors a chance to take part in the fun.

Children from Brighstone Primary School performed a country dancing routine.

Stalls included plants, cakes, toys, books, white elephant and mystery parcels.

There was also a falconry display, dog display, and music from Brass Moneys as well as children’s races.

All the profits from the fair will go to local community organisations and groups including St Peter's Church, Shorwell Village Hall, Brighstone Scouts and Guides and Brighstone School.
