A NEW charity shop has opened in Ryde.

Mayor, Cllr Michael Lilley, cut the ribbon at the British Heart Foundation (BHF) shop last Tuesday (June 11).

He was joined by BHF staff and volunteers, who welcomed people to the High Street shop.

Cllr Lilley said: "It’s a pleasure to officially open this shop and meet the great staff and volunteers — I encourage locals to donate items to help this charity beat heartbreak forever.”

BHF area manager Vincent Stevens said: “Each item sold will help the BHF fund life-saving heart research.

"We still need more donations, so would love to receive any unwanted clothing and accessories, or we're always in need of volunteers to spare a couple of hours a week."

He asked for urgent donations of children's prams, high chairs and travel cots.
