AN IMPRESSIVE number of exhibits featured in Bembridge Horticultural Society's members' show.

Twenty-three adults and five children took part in the show, held at Bembridge Village Hall on Saturday.

There were 192 entries in total, 14 of which were submitted by children.

Show stalwart Andrew Nightingale won five trophies, including the Centenary Shield for most points in show and cups for the best sweet peas and pot plant, closely followed by Eve Dyer with two trophies.

Society chair Hilary Haley, vice-chair Jan Yeats and secretary Hazel Ransome said they were impressed with the number of entries — particularly given the difficulties gardeners had faced due to the weather.

Hazel said it had been challenging to get everything ready in time as early hot spells, followed by high volumes of rain, had affected flowers and produce for the show.

She said: "Thank you to everyone who came, and those who made the show happen. Considering the difficulties we faced, it went very well.

"The children involved were lovely. You could see they were genuinely interested, and really enjoyed themselves."
