A FORMER BT telephone box, bought by Yarmouth Town Council for £1, has been turned into a miniature art gallery.

Old photos of The Square have been placed inside.

The phone box has been renovated and repainted by town councillors Rod Corbett and Jenny Jackson, and old photos of The Square placed inside for people to look at.

Rod said: "The town council were given the opportunity to buy the phone box for £1, which we did.

"We thought about turning it into a library but, in the end, decided to put up framed pictures of the town."

The project has been supported by the Yarmouth Town Trust and research enthusiast Colin Willcox.

The pictures mainly show the town square in the late 1800s.

"We can change the pictures as and when," said Rod.

"They are there for visitors and passers-by to enjoy. They can just turn around and see how The Square used to look."
