ONE of the Isle of Wight's top hotels is set to open a new restaurant in Yarmouth.

The Royal Hotel, Ventnor, has taken over the lease of the former Yarmouth Spice restaurant, which closed at the start of the year.

The new restaurant, above the Wightlink office, will be called The Terrace.

The family-run Royal is owned by father and son, William and Greg Bailey.

Greg told the County Press: "We are aiming to launch The Terrace next March but there is still a lot of work to do.

"The Terrace will have a relaxed, family-friendly dining atmosphere serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with a refurbished New England style theme.

"We have decided to keep the name simply as The Terrace as it will have sunset views over Yarmouth harbour and the Solent."

"With the new Tetradock, boat owners can moor up and walk 20 metres to their table."

The floating Tetradock is a short-stay, walk-ashore pontoon installed by Yarmouth Harbour Commission this year, which has already proved popular with visiting boat and rib owners.

The Terrace menu will feature Island produce, including fresh fish, and there will be regular themed events.

The restaurant is also looking to recruit staff, including a general manager and head chef.
