ENTRIES were of a high standard but numbers were slightly down at this year's MacNaughton-Howe Arts and Crafts Festival in Ventnor.

Artists are urged to take part next year as the art category was not well supported.

Chairman Snady Fraser said: "This year's Chairman's Choice award went to Peter Pie. He created an outstanding Meccano crane, which was fully working and lit up.

"His wife will be glad to get her dining room table back.

"We had four talented children enter — Montgomery Penny, four, Oliver Penny, six, Rollo Little, 12, and Iris Little, 14.

"We also had a class entry from St Francis Primary School, Ventnor, which entered quite a few items.

"Come on you knitters, sewing bees, artists, photographers and computer buffs, let's get going for next year.

"Thank you to all our helpers, the venue St Catherine’s Church and everybody who supported us."

Winner of the Needlecraft Cup and Craft Cup was Joyce Royal of Ryde.

The Art Cup was won by Ann Willis, of Adgestone, and the Photography Cup by Bruce Williamson, of Ventnor.

The Computer Cup was awarded to Marion Best, of Ventnor, and the Best Display Table was by Lake Craft and Chatter.
