RESCUE teams were called to the River Medina last night (Thursday) following fears festival-goers may be in trouble — after people were spotted pitching a tent on a mud bank near Island Harbour.

The Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team (CRT) and Cowes RNLI were called to the scene at around 10pm.

Ventnor CRT tweeted: "Tasked to a report of person/s pitching a tent on the mud bank 500 yards south of Island Harbour, last seen at 9pm."

The two teams searched the shoreline but no-one was found, and neither was the tent — it was most likely taken by the tide.

Ventnor CRT said: "Tidal mud can be very dangerous, you should never attempt to cross it or enter it if you find yourself in difficulty or see someone on the mud.

"Dial 999 instead and ask for the coastguard."
