THE Isle of Wight Fire Service was called to Newport in the early hours of this morning (Friday).

The fire service was called at 4.55am to a rescue from height incident.

Two fire engines arrived at the scene ­— one from Newport and one from Ryde ­— alongside a couple of support vehicles.

A male casualty ­— located on the roof of a shop at Scarrots Lane, Newport ­— was helped down by the crew.

Police were in the process of attending but stood down.

The casualty was safe to go home and did not require an ambulance.
