CULKHEAD Strollers FC held its inaugural football festival — and aims to put the Isle of Wight on the map for disabled football.

The event Isle of Wight Pan Disability Football Festival was held at Sandown Sports Centre last Sunday (June 9), on its new astro pitch.

As well as football, and a penalty shoot out for prizes, there was live music and DJs, a bouncy castle and face painting.

Trophies were presented to the three winning age groups, and medals to all competitors.

Visit Isle of Wight and Shanklin Rotary Club helped fund the event.

More than 200 people attended, raising more than £800 for the football club. The money will be used to make the next festival bigger and better — hopefully involving teams from the mainland and even Europe.

"It went fantastically well, it was the first of its kind," said organiser, Dave Duffy.

"We had 12 teams attend from all over the Island.

"We want to put the Island on the map for disabled football."

Next year, Dave wants to make the festival a two-day event and start a disability league for the new season.
