NETTLESTONE Primary School's STEM challenge contenders used their entrepreneurial expertise to raise travel costs to the national final.

The Turbo Turtles team won a place in the regional finals of the Jaguar Landrover Primary School Challenge — hosted at CECAMM college in Whippingham earlier this year — after designing and building their own race car.

They raised the money with a raffle at the school fayre, and gave presentations about the challenge at Staddlestones Garage, Ryde, where they collected donations.

Staddlestones invited them to set up their pit display in the showroom, along with the cars they had built and raced.

Red Funnel and the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation have also approved grant applications to subsidise travel costs.

The national final takes place at the British Motoring Museum, Warwickshire, tomorrow (Tuesday).
