FIRE crews are helping free a woman trapped in the undergrowth outside Sainsburys this evening (Wednesday).

Three crews from Newport and one from Ryde were sent to the bank near the supermarket at 6.20pm.

Ambulance and police officers are also on scene, and an air ambulance has been called.

An ambulance spokesperson said: "A woman became trapped in the undergrowth, so crews are working to free her."

It is not known how the woman became trapped.

UPDATED 9pm

The crews have now left the scene. The woman was extracted and taken to hospital by ambulance at 7.36pm.
