THE man charged with the murder of ex-Isle of Wight Councillor Gerry White was denied bail at a hearing at Winchester Crown Court today (Monday).

Jonathan Christopher Stasiuk, 60, of Pier Street, Sandown, has been remanded to the next hearing on August 12 at Winchester.

He entered no plea and will be asked to answer the charge of murder at the August hearing, which will be a plea and trial preparation hearing.

A provisional trial date has been set for November 4.

Police found the body of 73-year-old Mr White in Lake Community Gardens, near Scotchells Brook Lane in Lake, after receiving reports of a serious assault last Monday, May 27.
