THERE will be spectacular sailing in the West Wight with the 61st running of the Yarmouth Gaffers Regatta, starting today (Friday).

The event will attract nearly 60 gaff-rigged boats and is organised by The Solent Gaffers.

Racing will under way this afternon and will run tomorrow (Saturday).

In the evenings, when they return to dock, the boats will be dressed out in flags to bring an incredible colourful celebration to the harbour.

Organiser, Jeremy Retford, said: "Anyone who likes beautiful yachts can't miss an occasion like this.

"Our first race starts at 2pm today and the gaffers will be preparing from 1pm.

"The main race tomorrow starts at 10am and again, the boats will start getting ready around an hour before."

The event is hosted by the Royal Solent Yacht Club, with the presentations tomorrow night.

Yarmouth Sailing club has a buffet and live music from The Dance Preachers on Friday. There will also be the Royal Solent Queen's Jubilee Race on Sunday, a separate event, organised by the Royal Solent Yacht Club.
