THREE Isle of Wight businesses have won lifestyle awards from Muddy Stilletos — an urban guide to the countryside.

Now in their seventh year, the awards champion the best lifestyle businesses across 21 counties. The winners were chosen by a public vote.

Of the 24 awards dished out across the country, three were won by Isle of Wight businesses.

Mrs Middletons Shop and the Rabbit Hole, Freshwater, won best bookshop, the Isle of Wight Distillery, Ryde — home to Mermaid's Gin — won best local producer in the food and drink category and Seaview Art Gallery won best art gallery.

Linda Groves, managing director and curator of Seaview Art Gallery, has owned the business for more than three years.

She said: "It's the first year we have been nominated for an award. To win was such an amazing surprise and also very much a humbling one.

"I want to say a huge thank you to my artists for their passion, dedication, creative excellence and professionalism."

Gail Middleton, owner of Mrs Middletons Shop and the Rabbit Hole, has won three awards in the last three years. She has also made the finals of The Bookseller's independent bookshop of the year awards.

She said: "We are absolutely thrilled by the news and so grateful for the support of our customers who voted in droves.

"It is so encouraging when you run a small business to feel so well supported."

The Isle of Wight Distillery has received a number of awards since its launch in 2015.

It has won gold in the American Distilleries Institute awards and silvers in the International Wine and Spirit and UK Bar Brand competitions.

Sales director Malcolm McClellan said: "I think it's another wonderful achievement. We're very grateful to all the people who have supported us and Muddy Stilettoes, for promoting this competition."
