THE MV Boudicca will sound its horn off Ventnor to commemorate D-Day.

The town will hold a series of events to mark the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings next Wednesday (June 5).

The MV Boudicca will set off from Portsmouth Harbour, bound for the Normandy beaches, carrying 300 D-Day veterans.

Accompanied by a Royal Navy warship, it will stand off the coast at Ventnor shortly before sunset and sound its horn before continuing on its way.

In Ventnor, there will be bellringing, wartime music and a sandcastle building event.

A commemorative booklet, detailing the history of Ventnor's role in the operations will be available. Proceeds will go to the Royal British Legion.

The event has been organised by St Alban's and Churches Together in Ventnor.
