NEWCHURCH Primary School has benefited from the proceeds of popular fundraising run, the Newchurch Nine.

“The Newchurch Nine was yet another fantastic event,” said its organiser, Adam Tuck, the school’s head of PE and a member of Ryde Harriers.

Now in its fourth year, last Sunday's event sold out all 400 places available several weeks before the run was due to take place, such is its popularity.

Supported by the Isle of Wight Council's 1Leisure, as they did last year, the Newchurch Nine is designed to give runners of all ages the choice of three distances, on a scenic route with a variety of terrain and elevation challenges along the way — all taken on in a very family-friendly atmosphere.

Prizes were not handed out in the traditional way.

At the end of the event, all entrants and volunteers put their name into a draw, with prizes donated by Island companies and picked at random.

“I have already received excellent feedback — in particular, from one runner saying this was the first organised run she had ever attended,” added Adam.

The event should raise around £5,000 to purchase and upgrade ICT equipment for Newchurch Primary, particularly for younger children.
