AN OPEN day will be held at the RNLI inshore lifeboat centre in East Cowes tomorrow (Sunday).

The charity employs 70 people at the Clarence Road centre who build and maintain the RNLI's lifeboat fleet for the whole of the UK and Ireland.

Isle of Wight Lord Lieutenant will open the event, which runs from 10am until 4pm, and includes guided tours, entertainment and the naming of a D-Class lifeboat.

Admission is free and refreshments will be available.

There are

a number of events taking place in East Cowes

over the weekend to celebrate the bicentenary of Queen Victoria's birth, including a family fun day, modern day great exhibition, horse-drawn parade and music festival.
