THE Stop Brexit campaign bus toured the Isle of Wight on Monday in pursuit of votes for the Green Party.

Ahead of Thursday's European Parliamentary elections, members of the Isle of Wight Greens joined the bus as part of its tour across the South East of England.

The bus is powered by a 138kW battery system and electric motors, usually charged by solar. It can do approximately 100 miles on one charge — saving 140kg of CO2 emissions every day.

The bus met Islanders at Ryde seafront and Newport town centre.

Chair of the Isle of Wight Green Party, Daniel James, said: "The Green Party electric bus is a great example of not just our policies in action, but also a glimpse into the future of a clean, quiet and self-sufficient public transport system for our rural communities.

"The Island has many large solar panel installations on farms, which could be charging up bus batteries during the day and powering services into the evenings."
