A FOOTBALL-LOVING young carer, a selfless thirteen year old and three talented dancers were among the winners at this year's Child Of Wight awards.

The awards – run by Isle of Wight Radio and presented by Breakfast Show hosts Paul Topping and Georgie Carter – took place at Cowes Yacht Haven.

Guests were treated to a performance by Britain's Got Talent star Derek Sandy and children from Theatretrain.

The overall Child of Wight winner, 13-year-old Leah Ounsworth, said: "My dad has disabilities, my mum has a blood disorder and my brother has autism and ADHD. I help them all through whatever they need."

Grace Argyle was named Child of Wight Fundraiser and honoured for her charity work.

The Community Kids from The Bay CE School won the Make a Difference award, working as gardeners at Osborne House, and singing First World War songs with the Chelsea Pensioners.

Other winners were Harvey Brett-Hill — named Best Brother for supporting his family and his brother Toby who has autism.

Evie Fuller was named Best Sister for her love and support for twin Grace, who has cerebral palsy.

Anna Marie Constable – who faced challenges with her health, learning disabilities and autism – was handed the Asa Singleton Courageous Child award, after running into a pub to find a defibrillator when her dad collapsed at the wheel.

Cyclist Harrison Hendy won the Sporting Star award, having raced across Europe and competed in the European Youth Tour.

Ryde Academy pupils Bethany Wilford, Ben Thompson and Oliver Brunton were the Young Performer winners.

Jaden Humphreys was named Young Carer for his efforts caring for his mum who has daily epileptic seizures. He has saved her life multiple times.

The Young Achiever award went to Summer Tucker, who lost her mum to ovarian cancer when she was 12 years old, and later joined the Wave Project surf group in Sandown to help children overcome trauma.

Reuben White was named The Child of Wight Best Friend. Reuben is best friends with Jay, who is 10-years-old and has cystic fibrosis.

Isle of Wight Radio managing director, Claire John said: "What an incredible night, what a fantastic group of worthy winners.

"It really does demonstrate how we are lucky to have so many incredible young people here on the Island."
