THE Wight Strollers have donated £8,025 to Isle of Wight charities — taking the total they have raised during the past year to more than £22,000.

The theatre group held its AGM and cheque presentation ceremony at Shorwell Parish Hall.

The £8,025 was raised at this year's panto, Robin Hood and the Babes in the Wood.

Cheques of £1,000 or more were presented to the Alzheimer's Cafe, Isle of Wight Foodbank, The COOK Project, The World Scout Jamboree (Isle of Wight team) and WightSAR.

They gave donations to Ben Rothwell, who has motor neurone disease, for 50 hours of care, and 1st Ryde Brownies for a new flag.

Geraldine Tulloch, chair of the Wight Strollers said: "What I love most about this company is that by having fun, we are able to help other people."

Ian Johnson, of the Isle of Wight Foodbank, said: "Listening to what you've achieved, I'm astonished. Anyone can need our services at some time or another, so thank you, most sincerely, for supporting us."

At the AGM, members were delighted to discover they had won a NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association) Accolade of Pantomime Excellence for their 2018 pantomime, Cinderella.
