A WARRIOR Trail sponsored walk took place at the same time as Walk the Wight to help raise hundreds of pounds for the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal.

The event was park of the IW Walking Festival and was attended by volunteers from the Poppy Appeal, maritime services and the Royal British Legion Riders who performed marshalling duties.

The walk commemorates the centenary of the armistice and the adventures of Jack Seely and Warrior, the War Horse, visiting places where they lived and trained.

The seven-mile walk started from Mottistone with more than 30 people participating.

Sarah Ferris, community fundraiser for the Poppy Appeal in South Hampshire and the IW, said: "We had a large number taking part, which was quite something considering we were 'competing' with Walk the Wight.

"We came across many of the Mountbatten fundraisers on the way which was lovely. The weather was kind to us and we were very well supported by an army of volunteers.

"Participants certainly enjoyed the event and all received a medal."
