A COWES woman has been banned from the roads for three years after being caught drink driving — for the second time.

Jessica Mae Rydings, 25, of Park Road, got her first drink drive conviction in 2012, and her second at the IW Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

She admitted driving a Volkswagen Golf on South Street, Newport, on April 28, while having 49 microgrammes of alcohol in her breath, when the legal limit is 35.

Ann Smout, prosecuting, said Rydings was stopped by police who were on mobile patrol at Coppins Bridge and spotted her car had no rear lights on.

She pulled over on South Street and the officer smelt alcohol in her breath.

Barry Arnett, for Rydings, said she was only out because she was being a good Samaritan, going to help a friend in need.

He said the consequences of a ban would be quite dire for her, as she was a single working parent with two very young children, who relied on her car to get to her waitressing job, and take her children to nursery.

There is a mandatory three-year driving ban for a second offence. This was imposed, along with a £160 fine.

Rydings was also ordered to pay £85 costs and a £30 surcharge.
