THE Isle of Wight Council has elected a new chairman for the next year.
At Wednesday's full council meeting, outgoing chair, Cllr Lora Peacey-Wilcox was replaced by Cllr George Cameron.
Cllr Shirley Smart — who was unable to attend due to a broken leg — was elected vice chairman of the council.
Councillors paid tribute to the outgoing chair, describing Cllr Peacey-Wilcox as 'one of the hardest working and best dressed' members of the chamber.
Other committee chairs were also elected at the meeting —
Corporate scrutiny committee — Councillor Andrew Garratt.
Policy and scrutiny committee for children’s services, education and skills — Councillor Vanessa Churchman.
Policy and scrutiny committee for health and social care — Councillor John Nicholson.
Policy and scrutiny committee for neighbourhoods and regeneration — Councillor Michael Beston.
Audit committee — Councillor Brian Tyndall.
Planning committee — Councillor Christopher Quirk.
Licensing committee — Councillor Charles Chapman.
Appeals committee — Councillor John Kilpatrick.
Isle of Wight pension fund committee — Councillor Adrian Axford.
