THE Island's Gothic Circus Festival has been cancelled, due to slow ticket sales.

The event was due to take place on the May Bank Holiday weekend.

However, the Nightingale Hotel will host three nights of parties instead.

A spokesperson for the festival said: "We were unable to sell enough tickets to provide a decent size crowd. We feel that without a decent sized crowd of people the atmosphere we are trying to create would be impossible and people wouldn’t have the best time you deserve.

"We have been left with no choice but to cancel this year’s Gothic Circus Festival, even though we have already invested tens of thousands of pounds which we will not get back."

Instead the hotel will host three nights of circus fun, with all shows except for Magus Utopia and Mechanical Menagerie performing at the Nightingale Hotel.

There will be three function rooms, three bars, outside tents, DJs, and live music.
