A MAN arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm has been released without charge.

As reported, police were called to Leed Street, Sandown, on Thursday (May 9) night following reports a man had a weapon.

Police carried out enquiries in the area and later recovered an air rifle.

A 59-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

Police confirmed today (Monday) he was subsequently released from custody, but remains under investigation.
