TWO walkers have been flown off the Island by air ambulance after becoming unwell during Walk the Wight today.

One patient was cared for at Brook by the Hampshire and IW Air Ambulance, and another was attended to at Totland near the Needles Battery by Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance.

Both have been conveyed off the Island to mainland hospitals.

A spokesperson for Mountbatten said: "We are aware of two ongoing separate incidents — one at Brook and one at Highdown — where the assistance of the emergency services has been called on.

"Our understanding is that the two people involved are being taken to hospital and next of kin are being informed.

"We are grateful for the assistance of everyone involved including event staff and members of the public.

"With over 8,000 walkers, Walk the Wight is well underway and is continuing as normal. Further updates to follow."
