A DISCARDED cigarette caused a fire at the bridge connecting Coppins Bridge car park to Newport's Cineworld.

A small wooden panelled area was damaged by fire caused by a dropped cigarette at around midday.

Newport firefighters attended the scene and used one hose reel jet to dampen the area down.
