STUCK waist-deep in mud, a 15-year-old boy was rescued from the River Medina last night.

Ventnor Coastguard, Needles Coastguard Rescue Service, the IW Ambulance Service and firefighters from Newport Fire Station were among the rescuers.

The IW Fire and Rescue Service sent one appliance, one water rescue unit and one response support vehicle.

The rescue took about half an hour and was stood down at 9.51pm. The teenager was checked over at the scene and taken by home by ambulance.

A spokesperson from the fire service said: "One 15-year-old male was stuck in mud, waist height. He was released using an inflatable path and water rescue equipment."

The incident happened near the Medina Valley Centre, at Dodnor.
