THE Isle of Wight Scouts already have more than 1,200 young people and 400 adults as members — but there is always room for more.

Anyone interested in joining is welcome to attend an open day at Corf Campsite, Porchfield, with free taster activities including kayaking and archery.

The open day takes place on Saturday (May 18), from 10am to 3pm.

There are 23 scout groups across the Island for people to join.

Most have beaver, cub and scout sections for children and young people aged six to 15, and explorer and network units for ages 15 to 25.

There are opportunities for adults, too, helping to deliver the scouts' program of activities. Full training will be given to potential leaders and helpers.

Membership aside, the event provides a once-a-year opportunity to see the Corf site and get a different view of Newtown Creek, from the shoreline or the scouts' bird hide.

Car parking will cost £3.
