A SUPER-ACCESSIBLE website has been developed for the Island's visually impaired.

Wight Computer has developed a fully accessible website using assistive software for Sight for the Wight — formerly the Isle of Wight Society for the Blind — a local charity that provides information and support to visually impaired people, their families, friends and carers.

Wight Computers lead software developer, John Collingwood said: "From using a screen reader to describe images, increasing the contrast between elements on the page, to being colour blind aware — we have learnt first-hand the kind of experience the website gives a visually impaired individual.

"We have also included a way to increase the text to the largest size that ensures that the website still looks good."

Chief executive of Sight for the Wight, Miriam Tong, said it was important the charity had an accessible website to help people with visual impairment maintain independence, learn new skills and participate in social, physical and educational activities to reduce loneliness and isolation.

Managing director of Wight Computers, Andrew Nordbruch, said: "This has been a very exciting project for us as it has given us the opportunity to not only support a fantastic charity but to showcase and further develop our software skills."
