PIANIST Sally Halsey will return to the Island to perform with local musicians.

A night of piano music will be held at Quay Arts next Friday (May 17) — making great use of the Newport arts centre's lovely old Bechstein piano.

The variety event has been organised by Jim Thorn, of the IW Jazz Festival, and will feature music of all genres.

Tickets for the event, which starts at 8pm, are available on the door or in advance at www.quayarts.org/event/bechsteinfundraiser-gig

During her visit to the Island, Sally has also invited cellist Joshua Lynch to join her in a recital at St Boniface Parish Church, Bonchurch, on Thursday (May 16), at 7.30pm.

The young duo, which last delighted audiences on the Island in 2017, has since performed at Ely and Cambridge.

It will be the inaugural concert on St Boniface’s newly acquired boudoir grand piano and the programme will include works by Mozart, Mendelssohn, Beethoven and Saint-Saens.

Sally was brought up in Bonchurch and attended Medina High School, then Peter Symonds College and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.

She is in demand as a pianist, accompanist, coach and teacher and has worked with eminent musicians including Rebecca Gilliver (cello) and Wissam Boustany (flute).

Joshua is an experienced chamber musician and is about to complete a Masters of Arts at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London.

He is much in demand as a cello teacher in Cambridge.

Tickets for the Bonchurch concert are available on the door or in advance by emailing helen@con-brio.com or calling 852201.

Proceeds will go towards the renovation costs of the church's stained glass windows.
