GIRLGUIDES got creative in the kitchen at a cooking competition.

The girls had to prepare, cook and serve a main course for four people in under two hours, during an open evening at the Isle of Wight College.

Members of the public, including prospective new college students, watched them at work in the college kitchen, next to the restaurant.

Three teams of guides and rangers competed in the cook-off, whipping up some tasty and unusual dishes.

Binstead guides’ team of Meghan Colleypriest, Laura Brooks and Amy Bowbrick made Thai chicken curry.

Carisbrooke rangers Gracey Joseph-White, Erica Hiscock and Hermione Lloyd dished up a Taco Town-themed dish.

Brighstone guides Abigail Watson and Summer Berry served lasagne with popcorn.

Guest judge, chef Bradley Roe, from Ventnor Botanic Garden, and members of college staff to choose the winning team — with the honour going to the Brighstone guides.

Cookery books and equipment were presented to the winners, and the other teams also received cooking equipment.

Chef Bradley said all the dishes were well cooked and presented and could easily be placed on the menus of London restaurants.

“I would be willing to pay at least £20 for dishes such as these,” he said.

“There were some delicious flavours and textures.”

Carisbrooke ranger Erica Hiscock said: “This competition has really been a fun thing to do. I have thoroughly enjoyed it.”
