HUNDREDS of sheep flocked to Shorwell over the Easter weekend

There were handmade sheep on show in St Peter's Church, and in gardens throughout the village.

On Easter Sunday, a real ewe and her lamb were brought into the churchyard.

Rev Linda Bushell said: "It's the second year we have done this. We decided to hold it because we have a farming community here and it was very popular last year.

"Easter is a time when there is a new lease of life with the Resurrection of Christ and, of course, Jesus also tended his own flock.

"The whole community joined in for a really fun occasion."

Children from schools including Brighstone, Yarmouth, Shalfleet and St Blasius, Shanklin, made sheep, as did members of the local men's bacon butties group and the WI.

"We had 177 sheep in the church, including cartoons and drawings, and another 380 dotted around the village," said Rev Bushell.

"After the service, the children went to a local farm where they saw lambs and lots of chicks and ducklings.

"It made for a lovely atmosphere."
