TWO traditional religious re-enactments took place in the West Wight over the Easter weekend.

On Good Friday, there was a Walk of Witness from Freshwater Memorial Hall to the green outside the library.

Written and narrated by Geoff Kirk, the event saw the crowd stop outside the village's social club where there were representations by Judas (Mike Hackleton) and the High Priest Caiaphas (John Baldwin).

They then moved on to the green at Moa Place, where Pontius Pilate (Peter Byatt) made his judgement, before reaching the library for the Crucifixion with the centurion (Maurice Sheen).

Around 80 people attended the event and there were refreshments in Freshwater Methodist Church afterwards.

On Saturday, the Brighstone community turned out in force for a Passion Play which took part on the playing field.

The story started with the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem and continued right through to the Resurrection.

The play was written and directed by Chris Biggs with help from Paul Davies.

The costumes were made by Miriam Crewe and her team.

There were singers, organised by Charles Paterson, and a solo by Emily Scotcher, who played Mary Magdalene.

Jesus was played by Ivan Rendell.

Around 70 people took part, including the Cantus Vesperi Choir.
