REPORTS are coming in about a car crash at Parkhurst during rush hour this morning.

Heavy delays are being reported around the Parkhurst area of Newport.

Southern Vectis has advised that Route 1 has been delayed as a result.

Update 9am: The road has now been closed between St Mary's Hospital and Parkhurst. Multiple buses are stuck in the closure.

Update 10.12am: The police have confirmed they were called at 8.34am to a three-vehicle collision, including a bus, on Parkhurst Road, Newport.

Seven people suffered minor injuries and one person suffered a more serious injury and has been taken to St Mary's Hospital.

The road has been reopened.

Update 1.15pm: Simon Moye, Southern Vectis operations manager, confirmed that it was a Southern Vectis bus involved in the collision.  

He said: “Fortunately, our vehicle was travelling slowly at the time. We wish those injured a full and speedy recovery, and will be monitoring their progress closely. 

“We are also providing support for our excellent driver, who took evasive action and managed to avoid a full-front collision. He is uninjured but shaken by the incident. The bus was damaged and has been taken away for repairs. 

“Our services are now running as normal.”
