EMERGENCY service are at the scene of a car crash on Brading Downs — and Ashey Road near Knighton has now been shut to traffic.

Two appliances from Ryde Fire Station are at the scene, along with two fire officers, and the crew is working to extricate a casualty from a vehicle.

The collision happened at 7.30am this morning and the incident is ongoing. The IW Ambulance Service and the police are also at the scene.

Two cars are involved.

The road has been closed in both directions and traffic is now heavy in the area.

Update 9.07am: The Hampshire and IW Air Ambulance has arrived at the scene.

Update 9.11am: The County Press understands the air ambulance was called out as a precaution but was not required. Fire crews have now left the scene.

Update 9.26am: One person has now been taken to hospital.

Update 12.14pm: A further person was taken to St Mary's, making a total of two casualties taken to hospital.
