RYDE Saints are in need of a footballing miracle if they are going to be promoted to Division 1 of the Harwoods Isle of Wight League after losing 5-2 at Carisbrooke United this afternoon (Saturday).
The Saints, comfortably in second place the majority of the season behind champions Bembridge, needed at least a point to stand a chance of going up to Division 1.
But Carisbrooke new if they beat them, they would only need to beat bottom side Yarmouth and Calbourne, the whipping boys in Division 2 all season, in their final match next weekend to go up.
Ryde Saints, who beat Oakfield 4-2 to win the Isle of Wight Junior A Cup in mid-week, face them again on Wednesday, needing to beat them and hope Yarmouth can pull off the result of the season.
In the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division, Cowes Sports signed off their campaign with a 6-1 hammering at Horndean.
In Division 1 of the Sydenhams Wessex League, Newport earned a good 2-0 away victory at New Milton, while East Cowes Vics ended their season on a low, losing 4-1 at home to Downton.
