ONE of the Isle of Wight's seafront roads will be closed for nine working days while resurfacing works are carried out.

Shanklin Esplanade will be closed during the day, from 10am to 6pm, between Tuesday, April 23, and Friday, May 3.

Pedestrians will be able to use the road at all times, and vehicles will have access in the evenings and at weekends.

To help businesses on the seafront, the Isle of Wight Council has agreed to waive fees on the Shanklin Cliff Lift while the work is carried out.

Parking restrictions will be lifted in Palmerston Road, Osborne Road and Eastcliff Promenade.

Southern Vectis will have a temporary bus stop on the seaward side of the esplanade, by the former pier, to replace the stop outside the Waterfront.

The Esplanade Gardens car park will also be resurfaced during the project.

Island Roads construction manager Keith Gourlay said: "We would like to remind people that Shanklin Esplanade will be very much open for business after Easter, so please do pay it a visit during this time.”
