ISLE of Wight children notched up 13,264 sustainable trips to school during the Island's first Active Travel Week.

Thirty-four schools took part in the event, aimed at encouraging students to walk, cycle or scoot to school.

Jane Wilford, Wootton Primary school headteacher said: "The children were creative in their means of alternative travel. Teachers also noticed a difference in children's engagement first thing in the morning."

The event was organised by Wight Cycle and the Isle of Wight Council.
