SIX Isle of Wight schools will compete in next week's Rock Challenge and J Rock finals at Portsmouth Guildhall.

Organisers said the events gave youngsters a chance to perform in a professional venue, and encouraged them to choose the adrenalin-based high of performing over drugs or alcohol.

Involving more 50 schools from across south, the finals will no doubt prove a fantastic celebration of the time and effort schools put into their performances — with more than 3,600 students competing across the five days.

Isle of Wight schools taking part are Godshill and Wroxall Primary Schools (the Stenbury Foundation) on Tuesday, April 23, The Bay CE Primary, Sandown, on April 24, Medina College and Christ the King College on April 25 and Ryde Academy on April 27.

Rock Challenge event manager Charlotte Payne said she was looking forward to the spectacular shows.

"We have seen some outstanding performances this year and I cannot wait to see what the schools bring to the stage for our southern finals," she said.

"The spirit and passion of the students this year has been amazing and I think every student, teacher and community member should be very proud of all they have achieved this year.”
