FIREFIGHTERS were called out this afternoon (Saturday) to rescue a herring gull stuck on the roof of Next in Newport.
An Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service aerial ladder platform was deployed after the wild bird got stuck upside down on the corner of the roof.
Firefighters rescued the herring gull and handed it over to an RSPCA officer.
St James' Street was cordoned off by firefighters while the rescue took place and traffic was diverted north.
