ISLE of Wight Coroner Caroline Sumeray has complained to the chair of the Isle of Wight Safeguarding Adults Board about delays to inquests.

Mrs Sumeray, who has already summoned Isle of Wight NHS chief executive Maggie Oldham before her in court for a similar reason, asked Margaret Geary to appear in court on Tuesday, April 9.

One inquest, into the death of David Nurse, has been delayed four times — and more than a year — due to a lack of response from the safeguarding adults board.

Mrs Sumeray said: "I have never listed a case four times, ever. It is not good enough and shows a discourtesy to me. I don't want to mess the family around any further."

Ms Geary said some of the information required had been acted on immediately, but she was also frustrated by the delays in getting the report signed off.

There had been problems in getting timely responses from GPs but the board was making every effort to complete the report.

Ms Geary said it was a problem seen up and down the country, not just on the Isle of Wight.
